The Signature of All Things* – finished

I have been SUPER trying to finish The Signature of All Things (which I loved and then got a bit tired of) and The Year Of Magical Thinking (which I loved) and I DID FINISH BOTH TODAY. Just in the nick of time for A Year Of Australian Writing which starts tomorrow!  From tomorrow it’s all Australia authors for me. A year off from the likes of Ms Didion and Ms Gilbert, swapping them out for more Ms Garner and Mr  Winton. (Join in?! It will be ACE!)

I’ve been making a blanket and I am going to finish it off tomorrow so that it can be the first blanket of the year. I am obsessed with blankets. I am obsessed with the comfort they bring (in the making AND once they are finished). If I couldn’t make blankets I would probably go a bit nuts. This one is a cute one to try. I will show you how this week, okay?

Lots of people are making their resolutions right now, and it’s fun to see those. Last night I heard someone say their resolution was to chew more slowly. Woah. *side-eye* I think it’s cool if you like resolutions or if you don’t like them. Both are good because we’re all different and we work in different ways. For some people resolutions are ace and for others they are unfinished. Probably don’t bag out the resolvers too loudly. They are doing what’s right for them. (Some secret side-eye when you are alone is possibly okay though).

(If your resolution or goal is to be more active you MUST try this online program by some of my favourite ladies).

Yesterday I went for a walk (I am up to 61.76 kms) and spotted this poster, which made me think of Rin’s friend Eliza (who loves this book). Have you read Shantaram? I haven’t, but we bought a copy at the op-shop in Violet Town earlier this year. I lent it to Rin the other night. It’s such a big book, I totally get why it could be a bit too much. (I was like that with The Goldfinch because I had a really sore wrist from crocheting and I couldn’t hold it up anymore. I was loving it up until the wrist thing and I have no idea what happens in the end).

You know, I’m not very spiritual, in the traditional sense, but I did make a ‘glitter offering’ to welcome in the New Year. I think it’s nice to have a ritual to mark the occasion, and I love the offerings that are such an important part of life in places like Bali… and also I like glitter. I don’t really want to appropriate, but I think it’s kind of okay to create your own new rituals. A glitter offering is just that, right? It has silver candles around it so the glitter does not catch on fire and some nice incense to light at its heart.

Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful night! There’s a lot of pressure and streamers and booziness, so just take it at your own pace. Be nice to you, okay? I’ll see you back here tomorrow and it’ll be a fresh new year, full of fresh ideas and opportunities. That’s my favourite kind of thing!

x Pip

PS: Sorry for all the random babbling, but that’s the way things are sometimes, right?

* Disclosure: The link to the books take you to those titles at online retailer Fishpond where I am an affiliate. This means I receive a small commission of 5% if you buy a book there! But gosh, no pressure, just wanted to let you know that’s a thing I’m doing. You do what you like!
