My friend’s baby son is called Del. Yep. He’s adorable and smart and he likes me a lot. This is why I like to make him things.
If you follow me on Instagram, you might know that I have been making Del a blanket. This is the second blanket I’ve made him. The first one was THIS one (the very last one in this post!) It’s a sort-of Mum AND baby blanket, designed for tandem snuggles, but a bit too big to cart around.
THIS new blanket is more of a travel blanket. Del’s mum can pop it in his stroller or across his snoozy self in his car seat. It’s for the more on-the-go kind of Del, kinda thing.
This blanket is entirely crocheted in one stitch – Raised Shell Stitch. It’s finished with some pompoms for extra cute and fuzzy vintage flair.
I wanted to make a more old-school kind of blanket for Del, because he’s got a bit of a vintage sensibility. Without the pompoms, you TOTALLY might see this on the set of Downton Abbey. But you know me, I love pompoms and I think they add a bit of charm to most things… even if they do SLIGHTLY juxtapose the Downton vibe. That’s the kind of juxtaposing that I’m into.
I used super soft baby yarn for this – in 4ply – so it’s really extra soft and cuddly. Perfect for the snuggle-ready babies in our lives.
Happy New Blanket, Del!!
PS: Do you think it would be helpful if I posted a how-to?
So that the crochet fanciers or fanciers-to-be might make one too?

I love the gorgeous colour combo Pip and would be so grateful for a tutorial! Where did you get the Yarn?
Its lovely. A tutorial/ instructions would be great. I started making this after seeing your picture but used 8 ply and its going to be quite heavy! I shoukd learn to read and not just look at the pictures as it did say you used 4 pkly …..
I love the look of this blanket, and the pompoms add just the right amount of fun! How would the pompoms hold up in the wash? I can imagine this blanket will be well loved, often used, but in need of an occasional washing 🙂
A little late to the party — but a tutorial would be wonderful!
I would totally love a tutorial for this one! It looks so super snuggly. I’d love to make one.
+1, yes please for a tutorial! I’m always curious as to what size to make baby blankets suitable for travel. I seem to make them in two sizes: really big or really small. Oops! Yours looks like the perfect size.
Please please put up a tutorial! I’m making the Age Before Beauty Blanket for my friend’s baby and I’d LOVE to make this on next! Thanks Pip.
Yes please Pip! I’m currently scouring the interwebs looking for a nice baby blanket stitch for a little boy coming our family’s way very soon ,)
Pip, YES PLEASE, please post a how-to! I could probably work out how to do it, but a post from you can be my go-to and follow-along and then I might actually do it! Puh-leaze! Thanks!
Would love a tutorial! Learnt most of what I know about crochet from your lovely tutorials.
Totally! Yes please!
I’ve been following along on IG with this one, I love the stitch. I’d be interested in a tutorial.
Do you think it would be just as lovely in 8 ply?
I hope Del loves it.
Please do! I have no idea how to crochet but would love to learn and this blanket is gorgeous!
Yep, I’d love to know how to made one!
Oh yes, Pip, please do! X
Too cute! I would very much like a how-to on this one. I have a couple of small people finishing off being baked in my loved ones at the moment and I would love to wrap them in something like this when I finally get to meet them.
I love this blanket SO much and would like to try and make one for each of my pregnant friends (4!!)
Would love a tutorial as I’m still a relatively new crocheter xx
