Hello!

Did you know that it’s 150 years since Beatrix Potter’s birth?! It is! It’s true.

Publisher Penguin Random House are celebrating with new editions of a handful of Potter classics. Five of Penguin’s favourite fashion designers were commissioned to create these brand new, reimagined, very fashion-y covers. I think the INSIDE pages are Beatrix-business-as-usual. It’s just the covers that have had a bit of a special occasion make-over. Fancy that.

The Tale of Mrs Tiggy Winkle by Orla Kiely
The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin by Preen
The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Cats Brothers

The Tale of Tom Kitten by Rodnik Band
The Tale of Jemima Puddle-duck by House Of Holland (not pictured)

What do you think? Are you excited or outraged? I think they’d make a cute addition to anyone’s Potter collection, personally.

I feel conflicted about this. Since Peter Rabbit is now not bound by copyright, we are seeing lots of different re-imaginings of him and his company… but I’m not sure how much of the profit from this is returned to the Potter estate and family… and I worry about losing the essence of the playful bunny.

That said, Miss 6 LOVES the television series and has led her to start reading the books and that has been delightful for this Mumma-bear. I also feel that appropriated texts are interesting and very fun things to do. I love seeing things like Shakespeare re-imagined, so why not Potter! I just want it done in an ethical way, I guess…

So.. .conflicted a little bit… but generally I feel positive about this 🙂 I love that little rabbit! <3

Sorry for the early morning essay 😉

Nothing like an update for an old favourite, I say. Maybe someone should do this for the Famous Five and Secret Seven books? Maybe you and your creative friends, Pip?! x

I Love The Tale of Miss Tiggy Winkle and Squirrel Nutkin ones, but The Tale of Tom Kitten one… hmm, I think the execution could do with a bit of refining maybe.

As a whole hearted Beatrix Potter fan, quite literally from birth, I couldn’t be happier that they are re releasing these treasured stories. And it really is a treat for those that share a love of literature and fashion! A gorgeous little collection that would brighten up any bookshelf. I can’t wait to get my hands on them!!
