I think what happens a lot when people start thinking about using social media to grow a following, is that steam comes out of their ears! I totally understand that! It seems a bit impossible to know where to start and what to do on a regular basis. That’s okay. I am here to help.
A balanced, sharing, community focused approach to social (with a bit of self-promotion thrown in) is summed up by this CURATE : CREATE : RELATE approach. The way you roll out this approach to suit you and your blog may differ to the way I do it, but if you stand by these touchstones – CURATE : CREATE : RELATE you’ll be doing the very best job you can.
CURATE
Find the awesome work of others and share it on a very regular basis. Make this as much your mission as publishing and sharing your own work.
CREATE
Create your own original content as often as possible, then don’t be shy about pushing it out via Twitter, Facebook
RELATE
Use your voice and get chatty. Talk back, when you can (despite what your grandpa might have told you!) Be a real, relatable person online (not a bot) AND share via everyone’s (blogger or not) favourite visual platforms PINTEREST & INSTAGRAM.
Below is a little visual I made you, so you can think about how these streams might work for you :
How will you curate?
How will you create?
How will you relate?
What clever ways can you think of to share your work?
Create your own little flow chart and see how it all might ideally fit together for you.

Love this – need to work on that last little point there. Balance – one day I will find you!
Thanks Pip, this makes a lot of sense and seems doable and fun.
Love this approach.
