Crocheted Harlequin Blanket How-To!

This blanket is really pretty and actually really easy once you know how!

Things to note:

I used DK – 8ply – acrylic yarn in lovely brights and pastels. (You can find out exactly what I used over here.)
I used my fave 4mm hook.
I am using UK/AU crochet terminology.
You can find out about the basic crochet stitches here if you are new to crochet and need to learn the ropes.

Also: I watched a LOT of bad TV shows as I hooked, so you could do that too. OR you could watch less bad shows. I find bad shows have the perfect low-level concentration quota, so that I don’t mess up my stitches!

Here’s how to make your own cosy blanket…

    Hi Pip,

I must be the last person on the internet to stumble across your blog!

I absolutely adore this blanket and after a year hiatus from any crochet or knit I’m firing up the sticks and pumping to get into this!

I’d love to make it big enough to cover a child’s single bed; how big is this one? Any advice on how many stitches to chain at the start?

    Thank you!

Thank you for this amazing tutorial! I would never have attempted this but you made it look so easy (and it actually was). My attempt turned out great – this is my new favourite pattern x

    Hi Pip
I’ve loved making this blanket for my best friend’s soon-to-be-born daughter. But I would welcome any suggestions on how to finish it…loose ends, edging and pompom additions??? Thank you so much

Hey Pip! Did you only use 6 skeins of yarn for that whole blanket?? It looks beautiful!

Wondering this as well? Wanting to make one for my 10 YO daughter for Christmas and am trying to figure out what yarn to order/buy here in the states. I’ve found a couple but am wondering if 100 grams per color is sufficient except maybe the white?

      • Reply Meet Me At Mikes September 1, 2016 at 6:38 AM

Yes that would work if you chose 8 colours – and maybe 3 x 100g of the white? It really depends on how big you make your blanket, of course. Let’s say it’s 100cm wide. x

Your instructions are so easy to follow! Got bored on a sick day and decided to start a blanket for a friend’s baby. Your step by step pictures meant there was no drama in starting. 3 rows in and can’t wait to keep going. Thank you! Your time spent putting it together was completely worth it.

you know what? this is a fantastic tutorial, and I bet it took you ages! I am such a newbie dishcloth and beanie crochet person, and usually stuff like this just scares me, but I think I’m going to give it a go (although I’m fairly sure it will take me about a year to finish….) xx
