When I find a bag or purse I love, I like to keep it and use it for 124 years. I’m not really into chopping and changing things up. I’m not that kind of fashion girl. Instead, I like to find things I super love and use or wear them over and over.
It’s not just accessories I do this with. I wear the same favourite dresses a lot. The same favourite shoes, much of the time. I don’t really think that getting new things all the time suits me. I prefer to have a few favourites and wear them well. It’s better for my pocket and better for the environment and better for other women too… I mean, we’re constantly shown new looks and new things – with some weird idea that we need to keep up. I like to showily NOT do that. Set a different example.
I don’t think you need to keep up with anyone, except yourself.
I wear the same bunch of dress to lots of events (in rotation – not at the same time!) Also… the same shoes… usually the same hair. Then I am dressed as myself and that’s how I feel BEST. I can concentrate on other things like talking or making friends then (rather than trying to get used to a new zipper or hemline or heel.) Sometimes I get a new thing and that goes into the fave rotation too. I try to make sure that the new thing is ethically made or second hand, usually.
If you need a new thing each week – GOOD ON YOU. That’s ace. It’s good to know, though, that there are heaps of people out there who are less about all-of-the-new-all-of-the-time – and that that’s an actual gang you can be part of too. If you want. (Or just go shopping all the time. It’s your life!)
Of course, sometimes things really do need an update. When things are on the way out or you just feel like it’s time for something fresh. Or it’s a special/shit day and you want to treat yourself. Those are all good reasons to get shopping, right? I think so. Yep.
This is why I am pointing you to Blackbird And The Owl on Etsy. This label is out of Germany and I am liking it a lot. Run by Peggy Wolf, Blackbird And The Owl are all about using tried and true techniques in contemporary ways. I think the results are smashing and that’s why B+TO are part of the very first Craft Attack! feature on my blog. Because of the smashingness etc.
Welcome to Craft Attack, Blackbird And The Owl!
(Craft Attack! is an actual thing here now, by the way.)
