Blog To Book Insights : Part One : Everything’s Shifted

July 10, 2014

Okay. I admit it. I find the talking to you JUST as NICE as the writing to you. Truth be told it would be very easy to talk the whole eCourse… but then you wouldn’t have anything to print out! So instead I am going to do a nice mix of both. Hope that works for you!

Listen to the podcast (you can save it to your phone or whatever and listen later, if you like) then come back and have a read over the rest of the post.

Do you want to write a book? Is it your dream to turn your blog into a book? Well you are in the right place, m’lady or m’sir. I don’t think there are actually any fellas in this group. But if there are HELLO SIR. You have a nice lady name SIR. Or alternatively sorry I thought your lady partner stole into your paypal and bought herself an eCourse. I WAS WRONG.

Okay. Let’s get down to business.

If you want to write a book… you can. I mean it. There is nothing stopping you. Granted, your book may not be published in the olde worlde traditional publisher-y way. Granted. But the good news about this internetty thing is that you can publish your book yourself, digitally or otherwise, and you stand a chance of making as much money as you do via a publisher. It’s probable that the distribution of your book might not be as widespread. It’s also almost certain that the book will be more labour intensive to put together without all those publishing company helpers. That said, you can probably STILL get it done WAY faster.

A friend of mine likes to say ‘Hell is other people’ and sometimes that is true. Sometimes all those helpful people slow things down or confuse things. Sometimes it’s really MUCH more efficient to just get on with things and find your own way. And that is what I am suggesting you do.

The good thing about having a blog is that it gives you a chance to create a readership before you publish a book.  Another good thing about having a blog is that you can use that blog as a kind of online folio and show prospective readers (or publishers, if you must!) how great/interesting/funny your writing really is. Further, if you create an eBook and you are looking to be published in the traditional way, many publishers get a little bit beside themselves when they see an almost ready-made manuscript sitting there in your blog’s side-bar. It’s a really efficient way for them to pick up a new author and title.
