:: Another Finished Blankie

I know. I call blankets ‘blankies’. Yes, it’s a bit juvenile, but ‘blankie’ is much more about how a blanket is and feels than ‘blanket’ could ever be.

This blanket is speedy and stripe-y. It’s the Speedy Stripe and people have been making these for ever and a day.

To crochet this, I just chained A HUGE AMOUNT of stitches and did rows of treble crochet until it was big enough. This is actually quite big. It took around 20 minutes a day over the last 3 weeks or so.

It’s for a cute person’s birthday and I hope they will really like it!

I have so many ‘orders’ for blankets in my family. Or rugs. Some people call them rugs. (My Nan for instance). I think a rug goes on the floor, but don’t tell Nan that. She’ll get stroppy with me (like she did the time I said ‘dinner’ and she corrected me with ‘tea’!)

I have been working on a few different new-to-me things and I have stretched my brain a bit too much. It’s tired and feels like it’s bigger than my head. It’s trying to come out my eye sockets and I have to keep saying ‘No, brain. Do not come out of my eyes. That’s not okay.’ My brain is trying to listen, I can tell, but it’s still feeling stretchy and bulge-y. Ugh.

I hope you are well, reader peeps. I hope your brain is not trying to pop out of your eye sockets.

Love to you. I will report back on the Birthday Blanket very soon!

x pip

PS: This blanket is large – double or queen bed size, in fact! Goes to show you can whip something ace up pretty quickly, if you want to!

PPS: Sorry my coffee table has crumbs on it.

Oh I love this blanket so much! I’m going to give it a go too! Chain, and treble, then at the end of the row is it chain again? I’ve only ventured into the world of beanies and granny squares so far. Finishing this beautiful blanket would make me feel quite pleased with my progress!

    this is just gorgeous!!!!
with the chain stitch – would you just measure (against a bed perhaps) to get the length or do you know approx how many stitches it was?

I did not notice that you had crumbs on your coffee table!! But after you mentioned it, I did go back and look… still couldn’t find them – lol. Fabulous blankie… I wish I could crochet but have never really learnt. I can knit if knitting includes the holes! Colours look awesome too. Such a lovely keepsake!

Another beautiful blanket Pip! I hope your brain managed to stay where it’s supposed to be, I get that feeling myself sometimes and it’s most unpleasant.x

    This is absolutely gorgeous Pip!

Do you think it would be too ambitious for an amateur to give it a crack? I am a sub-par knitter & would love to give crochet a go (although my husband will laugh at me for the amount of times I have attempted knitting projects & not finished them! finishing a project is clearly not my strong point, but a gal can try right?!)

I have a sweet new baby (is 4 months too old to call new? surely not!) & would love a snuggly autumn sofa project.

Thanks pip – you are a treasure xxx

Oh you should give it a go! It only use two stitches – Chain Stitch and Treble Stitch (UK/AU version) – DO it!!! x

I was thinking, how does she find the time? Now I know 20 mins a day. That sounds doable, if I just spent 20 mins less each day reading about what others have made I too could make something awesome.
    cheers Kate

I call them blankies too Pip! I too am always getting corrected for ‘tea’ and ‘dinner’ from my Grandma. It is quite confusing, I will go over to visit for what I think is ‘tea’ and I have a hot meal…funny the different terms with a generation 🙂 A x

Re: the crumbs–My husband leaves a trail of crumbs everywhere, and it used to drive me absolutely mad. Then one day, in the midst of wiping up after him yet again, it dawned on me that the day may come when I would give anything to have my counter once again covered in crumbs. Crumbs=life. Crumbs are a good thing.

Pip, that is the best colour combo! I love it! Do you mind if I try out that colour combo one time?

How many blankets have you made over the years?

    • Reply Meet Me At Mikes February 27, 2015 at 6:48 AM

Oh I am so glad you like it! GO FOR YOUR LIFE with this colour combo! By all means! I have no idea how many blankets I’ve made… I will have a think on that and get back to you! x

Wow, that is so impressive. Love the colours and texture. I really want to make one and it’s time I learnt. Do you think it would be do-able for a beginner, or should I stick to granny squares? My kind neighbor is going to give me a hand.

Oh this is such an EASY first project! Give it a go! It’s easier than a granny square! Yep! xx

Too cute Pip! Two quick questions for a beginner…yarn type and hook size?

    • Reply Meet Me At Mikes February 26, 2015 at 8:19 PM

4mm hook and I use 8ply acrylic yarn (it’s soft and bright!) xx
