A lot of people think there is no choice in the smalls department if you are going to shop ethical. They are a tiny bit right in that you can’t just go in and buy any old thing. But that is true of most areas of ethical fashion shopping. Once you shake off that random buying habit you realise it’s much more rewarding to take the time to research brands and buy from those who treat and pay their workers fairly. That’s what I am trying to do, anyway. I took this pledge to ensure that the people who made the things I wear were paid and treated fairly. So far, this year, so good!
Let’s get down to business. Before we talk smalls and broach socks, lets talk sandals. We all like to wear sandals with our socks and undies don’t we? Here’s some better ways to do that:
I am a big fan of Jelly Sandals and I especially love the BABE style by JuJu Jellies. They are made in the United Kingdom and are recyclable. JuJu have been making these for 25 years, in fact, so if you are my age you may have worn this brand before!
Braintree Socks are an ex-Sydney, now London based company who make their socks ethically and have a firm eye on sustainability too. I love the look of these. They are colourful and fine, not too knobbly. I don’t like my shoes to be crowded with socks. I don’t like lumpy toes. These look like just the thing for me AND they tick lots of ethical boxes too. COOL!
There are some undie brands listed over here to make things a bit easier. I love the cute Madonna Bain ones. I also think these ones from Thunderpants look super comfy. They have fun prints and are NZ made (by a family run business!)
There are other quite a few other great smalls labels to consider too.
Hopeless Lingerie is a super saucy locally made label. If you need some saucy smalls you should totally look there first.
LuvaHuva also have really pretty knickers, all made under ethical conditions.
Nico Underwear have great, ethically made basics too. Nice one!
Which ethical smalls are your faves? Are you into the jellies?!
