Hello Pip-Life

:: A Seventeen Year Old Question

September 17, 2013

I’m not much of a shopper. I used to love shopping, but as my priorities have changed and as I’ve (sort of) grown up, I like it less and less. When I spend time away from home, like I did on the weekend, this kind of backfires a bit.  I find myself wanting to take prezzies home but not wanting to go shopping. Invariably this means I shop at the airport on the way back.

It’s not because the presents aren’t important.  It’s because I find the whole ‘buying stuff for fun’ thing doesn’t fit me very well. I ALWAYS leave it until the very last-minute. I’m THAT reluctant.

Luckily the boys at my house are really easy to buy for. They like techie things and books and practical stuff. These are the kinds of things that you can easily find at airports, even if you are a reluctant shopper like me. Phew.

So, on the way home this time, I bought Ari a wireless speaker for his iPod. It’s really cool and he totally loved it. And I bought some chocolate coated raspberries which are our shared fave. Yum. Do you like those too? I let Ari eat them for me most of the time. I’m good like that.

For Max, I bought two Penguin Classics:  High Fidelity and On The Road.  I’m a sucker for Penguin Classics and I think it’s a good thing to help build a collection and line them up, spine by spine.  Max actually likes them too, so it’s not just a ME thing.

As I tucked those books into my bag and boarded the plane, I got to thinking about how great it is that my kid is old enough to read such great books… And then I wondered what OTHER books should be on his hit list.  And then I thought I would just ask you…

Which books would YOU recommend to someone who is 17?
Which books do you WISH you had read when YOU were 17?
And if you are younger than 17, what books are on your list to read RIGHT NOW?
And do you like shopping?

Write soon,

x Pip
