A Little Film About Ai Weiwei

December 13, 2015

I’m so excited that Ai Weiwei is in town at the moment! NGV is showing Weiwei and Warhol and social media has been filling up with amazing and excited photos of various pieces (and people interacting with them!) I can’t get enough of it!

I watched this short film about Weiwei last night, and I thought you might like it too. My pal Kirsty told me about it – in a roundabout way – so thanks Kirst! Amazing!

This film is about so very many cool things – vision, dreams, repetition, perspective, community, family, artistry, tradition, responsibility. I am sure you could add a whole bunch more to that list.

I know it’s not SUPER short, but you really should make a cup of tea and watch it, if you haven’t already.

The world can be such a cluttered place, full of things you are meant to do… It’s a good idea to do interesting things that you LOVE to do, too. Things that change your view and take you out of the usual rhythm of life.

I really loved watching this! Maybe you will too. Here it is!

Tell me what you think? If you have time to watch it?

PS – The Tate Gallery has a bunch of great films like this on their YouTube. NGV has their own YouTube channel too featuring Virginia Trioli interviewing Ai Weiwei about all kinds of things (including cleaning toilets and pandas!) You could also watch this.

A true genius! There is a fantastic PBS documentary on his work that is worth googling. Such a creative mind! Amazing!

What an amazing film, and what an astounding thing to produce. So many seeds.
It’s beautiful, so labour intensive and CRAFTY…. and then my brain wonders about a disparity between Aunty and Ai Weiwei… but that’s no different to the disparity between me and Aunty or me and this fascinating artist. And then my brain goes, you know nothing about culture and history.
    Sunflowers. Huh.
Thank you for sharing the film Pip.
