I don’t like to play favourites. But this might be my favourite hello of the year. Tania wrote to me (and you!) about her grandparents, telling her story of a lifetime of letters between the three of them. Obviously you can read it for yourself, above!

This lovely letter made me cry. Not in a bad way. Just in a way that’s a bit of a nod to the inevitability of things.

It’s hard to think of the people you love getting old and passing away. I know it’s the way things are, but I am dreading that kind of thing happening in my family. Ugh. Sob. It’s sad to say goodbye, right?

I know this is going to sound weird, but I also cried this morning when I was watching Homeland and a character’s elderly dad died. It was really sad. Losing people is the pits, right? It’s a struggle to come to terms with it and watching that episode brought that sad helplessness home.

Yesterday, to add to this carnival of tears, I cried when I watched this video about an amazing but frail lady who’d spent her younger days as a dancer. Watch the clip and you will see. She’d been shown footage of herself dancing for the very first time (she’s now aged 102). You could feel her being transported back and she mentioned she’d like to do it all again as she lay in her hospital bed.

Luckily I like crying and I like feeling things too. I don’t like missing people, but hey… two out of three isn’t bad.

Thanks Tania for sharing your feels with us. You must really miss your Pa. So sorry for you loss.

Your Nan’s accounts of the frocks and sweets sound really beautiful, and your letter is beautiful too! Thanks for the gorgeous print! Thanks for joining in and making us all have a think about the people that mean the most to us.

    wow tania,
What a special letter, what a special lifetime of letters… Those memories are so vivid and precious. Isn’t it perfect how these written hugs can preserve them for us…..
Life’s gems are there to be had but taking the time to write is something too easy to avoid.
I’m loving the 52 hellos, I hope you are enjoying connecting with other loved ones through the beloved snail mail box in the tradition set by your delightful exchange with your grandparents. Thanks for sharing this with us.
