52 Hellos Hello

:: 52 Hellos: Week 09

March 7, 2015

Let’s hello? Shall we? Do let’s!

Here are this week’s letters (with a huge thank you so much to their senders, Ashlea and Jo!)

Did you read Ashlea’s letter?

Man. I loved reading it. I loved the bits about the green lawn and Fraser Island and camping and fishing in a freshwater lake. I also thought it was really generous of Ashlea to talk about how hard it can be to conceive, and the feeling women (couples) navigate when things don’t go according to plan. I wonder how many others have felt/been through the same, or perhaps dealt with miscarriage or other baby-related struggles.

It’s not the sort of thing that gets talked about often enough or openly, but it really shouldn’t be closeted away. I felt pretty privileged to get a glimpse into what that experience is like and how difficult it is…

Sometimes knowing how other people are dealing with difficult stuff is a HUGE help. When things are a bit of a mess, you can remember something you’ve read about someone else trying to make sense of similar stuff and it makes you feel less isolated, you know?

Thanks heaps for a beautiful letter, Ashlea. I am totally busting to go camping now!

Jo sent the cutest package of papery treats with her letter. Thanks heaps!

(I’m going to address Jo directly, because that’s going to work best! Feel free to listen in, though!)

To answer your question, you are spot on, Jo. Recycling pages is a-okay but copying pages (to make multiple, identical sets) is not. So you totally know what you are on about. I think recycling things in crafty ways (as you are!) is a great idea.

Sometimes craft can become a bit crazy, in that you need to buy heaps of stuff to make things. It’s ace when you can minimise the spend and still come up with clever ideas. I think that’s at the very heart of the kind of craft our grandmothers and great-grandmothers practised and I’m totally ALL FOR IT!

Your place sounds pretty great. Imagine having a sheep! I actually can’t imagine it, but I am sure it’s a good idea for you. It’s not a good idea for me because I don’t have any space and I have always believed that sheep wanted to head butt me. This is because the boy sheep are called ‘rams’ and when I was little I thought they were called that because they wanted to ram people. As in bump or crash into them. This has made me wary of sheep, but I totally support your  quest for a sheep. (Just don’t turn your back on them, because you never know…!)

Here’s even more from #52hellos – in case you missed out on reading other people’s mail!

    Thanks for sharing Ashlea and Jo’s letters, Pip.
    How brave of Ashlea to talk about issues of infertility, and I agree that it shouldn’t be hidden away and not discussed.
    I also can not imagine having sheep – but it could be amazing!
    I will definitely write you a letter from China in the next few weeks/months. I love that you can feel you know someone even if you have never met them 🙂
