52 Hellos Hello Listen/Watch/Read

:: 52 Hellos : Week 03

January 21, 2015

Do you know how great #52hellos is turning out to be? I’m not talking JUST about all the great letters I’m getting, but also about the letters I get to send. This week I sent something to my sister. A little package of good things and a long, messy letter. It was five pages long. As I was writing it, I realised that I probably had not written her a PROPER letter since we were kids. Maybe not even then.

It struck me that writing a letter is so very different to having a chat on the phone or writing an email. You know you can take your time, you stop and think about all the people, events and places you want to cover. And then you just write away. You can be chatty or newsy… but it’s got a cute formality to it. There’s a feel-good novelty factor in plucking the highlights and ‘telling the news’ in a handwritten way. I’m a huge fan!

I can’t wait until she opens it up and reads it. Topics covered included Real Housewives of Cheshire, family, food and things we’ve been doing. The surprising thing is that the feel-good factor is all about the writing for me. (Actually that’s not surprising. I’m all about the process!) What I mean by that is, it’s not about getting a letter back. It’s just about sending one out there. Nice, right? Super satisfying and heart warming, I tell you! Try it!

This week we’ve got some cute letters to read together. (If you want to find out more or join in – at any time – go here for the full story). Remember, every week you can win a #52hellos mini-super-cute prize pack collated by me, just by leaving a comment about one or more of the letters below. (It’s nice for the letter writers to get some feedback and hellos of their own, don’t you think?!) So leave a comment if you want to do that!  (The winner from last week is Shani!! I’ll be in touch with you soon!)

+ BTW: If you click on the images – they should enlarge for you so you can read more easily! Then just click the back arrow to come back into this post.
+ Hint: If there’s a magnifying glass over the enlarged image it means you can make it EVEN BIGGER by clicking it!

Let’s read the hellos…!

robyna

I’m not sure if Robyna wanted me to share her WHOLE lovely pink letter, so I just shared the first page. I am suddenly craving dipping my toes in the water and a potato cake with heaps of tomato sauce. I love these lines:

“I want to do so much. But wants only translate into haves with action.”

So true. Thank you.

laurens

Lauren’s story about her Mum and Dad is the best idea ever! How great will it be when they read all THEIR hellos?! Don’t tell them, okay? Especially if you know them. NO spoiling the surprise! Thanks for your ace hello Lauren. Love to you and your Mum and Dad!

sharon

Sharon sent me the cutest envelope and letter and some extra little papery treats too. Sharon is shy (as SO many of my readers are!) so if you are shy, know that she’s a total kindred spirit and she is reading happily and shyly from her place too!  I like shy people A LOT. I used to be SUPER SHY, so I know how it can be.

Thanks for helping with Softies For Mirabel too, lady! Thanks for the hello!!

Thanks to Robyna and Lauren and Sharon for writing! How great is it to read other people’s mail too?!

(Doesn’t this remind you of those children’s TV shows where we used to write in and the letters would get shown on our favourite TV show?! I had forgotten about that! How great!)

Write me a letter – or write letters to your friends and family – here’s how #52hellos works!

(And leave a comment for our letter writers, won’t you?!)

x Pip

    Pip!
I’m so glad you got my letter! I just want to thank you again for such a wonderful opportunity to write letters again!
Anyways, I learnt I have another connection to you… I think my friend Freya went to school with your son. CooL!
    Lots of love,
    Nieve

    Hey all,

I got a letter back yesterday from my darling 22 year old niece! I hope she will get into this as much as us. I wanted to thank Lauren for the great idea. My folks will be celebrating their 50th anniversary in October and since I probably won’t be able to make it to the States, this seems like a way to let them know I think of them often. And thanks to everyone for inspiring me to step up the envelope decorating game. ; p Such an easy inexpensive way to get a smile.

Ooh, I love this week’s letters and envelopes – so inspirational and pretty! Go everyone who sent a letter *waves big pompoms in the air*

And I’m SO excited to start writing this week’s hello! A while ago I applied for this pen pal project where snail mail fans exchange letters with lonely elderly people and I just got my first address to write to. I’m really curious as to who this person is, what her life has been like and what she’ll write me 🙂 so yay 52hellos and yay Pip for the wonderful idea!

    Much love from Holland,
    Sara

      Sara,

Is the program just for Dutch folks or are there some English writers as well? I would love to do this if you could share the info. Thanks!

        Hi Carla,

I didn’t know you replied to my message, so sorry for the delay! I think this project is only for Dutchies, but maybe it has changed in the meantime. You can look up and contact the project on Facebook, the page is called ‘Postmaatjes’ (Snail mail buddies) 😀

Oh what sweet letters with so much pretty … envelopes, washi tape, hearts, cute cute cute! The birdy washi tape and the pink writing are my faves 🙂
Letter writing feels beautifully old fashioned these days and a great way to slow down really – there’s no backspace button!

I just love this so much Pip. Writing letters is the BEST. I have a big box of letters from my youth, kept them all. Much as I love the internets and all it has given me/us I do miss letters. So nice to see this snail mail movement happening all over – I defs want to get into it this year.

All your featured letters were gorgeous, but my absolute favourite bit? Sharon’s little Thanks Mailman message on the envelope. Bet the postie loved that.

Really love your work Pip. Really. x

I love Robyna’s letter, that quote is perfect! I needed to hear that, since I am a bit of a dreamer. And I love your 52 letters idea, I’m going to write a weekly letter to my granny so she has something cool in the mail. I actually got a letter read on the tv show I loved once ????

    What a fabulous project!
Robyna, Lauren & Sharon – what ace letters each of you wrote, so chatty and kind and fun. Not to mention pretty!
Good luck with each of your babies – be they human or business or crafts.
    Love #52hellos Pip.
It reminds me of how I used to have writing sets as a kid – pretty notepaper and matching envelopes. Naaaw.
And the tv shows, yes! I wrote those letters.
