Aw GUYS!
You are totally getting excited about #52hellos ! I am so glad! Imagine if nobody sent me a letter. I would have looked like such a goose. Probably I would have asked my friends to write to me, but luckily there was no need because YOU ARE WRITING TO ME! Gosh.
It’s the new way to comment, don’t you know? Just send a letter!
Of course, 52 Hellos is not just about ME getting letters. It’s a pledge to try to send 52 letters (hellos!) over a set period of time. For me, it’s 52 letters/hellos in 52 weeks. You can see the first letter I sent here (it was to my Nan!) You can find out how to send me a letter or more about the project here.
This week we’ve got a few hellos to get excited about. They are all ace and special for their own reasons.
Here is a postcard from Alyson (from NSW, obviously!) I have met Alyson before and I can tell you she is really gorgeous AND she knows how to stop the cockatoos from eating the chook food. Also she knows all about chooks. Thanks for the beautiful cocky and hearty chortle, Al!
This lovely New Year’s card packed full of generous sentiment is from Rin. It’s not MY Rin, but it’s an interesting and talented New South Wales Rin nonetheless. Here’s what Rin sent… (I really love this Neil Gaiman quote and could an envelope be anymore festive? I think not! Also – the fish! My fish curled right up, so that makes total sense!) Thanks Rin! It was the best fun opening your hello!
And I really love this letter from Carla (who is living in Germany), not only because it’s written over a couple of pages, but also because it really gets to the heart of what writing letters is all about. Thanks heaps for writing Carla. I totally agree that the letter-writing is for US and that we should concentrate on the lovely ritual of it (whether we get a reply, or not).
Life’s like that too. Maybe you don’t always get the feedback or response you want, but it’s so important to keep doing the things that keep us connected anyway.
if you click on these images you can enlarge them (hopefully!)
W . I . N !
What do you like about these letters?
Leave a comment telling me (or their writers) below and my FAVOURITE comment of the week will win a cute lil #52hellos themed prize!
(Closes midnight Tuesday 20 January, Melbourne time)
I’ll be back to show you more of the hellos that have found their way to me NEXT Wednesday! (Maybe you spy yours in the box above already?!)
x Pip

Hi Pip,
I don’t get along well with my mother in law – she drives me nuts! She is really well intentioned but just one of those people who will ask you a question or your opinion, and not listen to the answer – WHY ASK I say!!?? Honestly, last time I saw her she asked about my job – the one that I left nearly 3 years ago!
She writes to us regularly, and even her letters drive me nuts – honestly she shares a little bit TOO much information 😉
But I digress – thank you for 52 Hellos. This week I sent my MIL a letter – just a quick family update to let her know how her grandkids are doing etc, and I enclosed the school photos from last year that I hadn’t got round to sending at Christmas.
Maybe if she reads the letter she will ‘hear’ what I have to say.
Hello Pip and the Pipsters,
I’m also a big fan of postcards. There are so many wonderful ones out there now to choose from and they are a bit like Twitter, to me, in that you have to get to the heart of the matter in a very short space. I especially liked your post from yesterday after re-reading my letter to you here today and will remind myself that just because they don’t respond, it doesn’t mean they hate me! ; p And I, too, must work on my handwriting. Although it is a perfect mash-up of my mother’s and father’s handwriting and that always makes me smile.
Hope you get many, many more letters and happy writing,
Carla
I love the long newsy chatty letter. It is so lovely to find a letter in the post and sit with a cup of tea while catching up on a friend’s news, gaining an insight into their world – their pleasures, their troubles, challenges and joys. So personal, warm and chatty.
I really love how colourful and curvy, and festive and joyful, these hellos are!
🙂
I love Alyson’s postcard to you Pip! I love an old fashioned postcard, a ‘hello I am thinking of you, wish you were here’ type thing. Nothing beats receiving some hand written post in this social media focused world 🙂 I scribbled down your postal address earlier in the week and was making this weeks goal to sit down and write YOU a letter, but also to some of my old pen pals who I wrote to as a child. Nothing like a blast from the past right?! I loved having pen pals and I wrote weekly to my cousin for over ten years. I still have all of my letters she sent back to me, they are very precious to read. Especially as we were growing up and we stopped talking about dolls and what Santa was going to bring us for Christmas and more on clothes, boys and what we didn’t like about school! Hilarious…. I LOVE that 52Hellos is bringing all this back to me, a flood of nostalgia and happy times. I can’t wait to be a part of it Pip. A fabulous idea, CHEERS to you! xxxx

These are just the sweetest letters ever. Good luck with the project! Its a great one!! I’ll get the pen and paper out soon and send a letter your way. I so look forward to reading each week about your letters. Much hugs and love
OH! sweet Pip, lovely clever Pip,

Beautiful letters all written from the heart! (Gosh Rin is so lovely!) I spy my letter in the box! Yay! Long live happy snail mail! xo
Oh my gosh I love this idea and must now check out your original post about the project. It’s a lovely concept in this day and age, to sit down and spend the time writing a letter to someone. Just the idea that someone has made the effort to sit and write in this day in age is sure to make anyone’s day! You have inspired me to get into the spirit myself. Best wishes for your project – I look forward to reading along.
