Have you ever been caught image-less when you’ve needed to publish a post? Perhaps you have resorted to trawling back through old, less-than-ideal shots in the hope of finding something to accompany your text? Sometimes this pays dividends, but I think it’s really a great idea to head this dilemma off at the pass and create your own image library of interesting ‘stock’ photos to use when you’re caught out.

While there are ‘stock image’ services you can use for this kind of thing, it makes much more sense to personalise your shots and take them yourself, right? Not only does this act as a bit of an intensive photography-improving session, it means that your blog images will be unique and true-to-you!

Here’s 25 stock images to DIY…
(Of course you might have your own bright ideas, so by all means improvise!)

A pile of interesting books
A cup of tea or coffee (maybe with a biscuit or two!)
A vignette featuring your phone, car keys etc
A notebook open at a page with a pen, perhaps a cuppa
A shot looking up through leaves to a leafy sky
A lovely bunch of flowers
A row of cute shoes, lined up neatly
A photo of a pet
A pile of stationery or art materials
A slice of cake
A shot of the table at a cafe you are sipping/eating at
A fancy drink
A beautiful view
An arrangement of small, cute things
A shot of a nice collection (mugs, erasers, special pens, teapots!)
A city skyline or a country road
Some pretty, colourful lollies
A bundle of letters
Some cute things on a mantlepiece or shelf

Little hands or little feet
Hands holding something interesting: biscuits, acorns, shells
Balls of wool or spools of yarn
A pretty door or window
An arrangement of cute things pinned to a wall
A pretty cushion in a chair

You can take these shots on one BIG photo creating day, or you can gather some in your travels. Try and be of the mindset that you are always gathering images, even if you are not quite sure what you’ll use them for. If you adopt the habit of taking photos (with your phone is fine) of things just because they are interesting and beautiful, with a view to having a nice library to enjoy and use practically you will never find yourself at a loss for an image again!

Do you like the idea of creating your own image library for your blog?
