16 wee gems for the Outlander tragic

June 8, 2016

(Does not contain spoilers!!)

If you follow me on Facebook, you will know that I am a bit obsessed with Outlander. Of course, I am not the only one. The mere mention of the books or TV series and people flock to discuss tartan and castles and lochs and duels and boobs and red coats like it’s nobody’s business.

Not only that, but they want to talk book vs TV. They want to discuss the merits of Season 1’s setting and costumes vs Season 2’s. And they want to tell you which scruffy, whiskery Scottish lad is their very fave.

And then they offer you a whisky! What a bunch.

If you’ve got the Outlander bug, here are some other ace things to explore:

1. Outlander’s costume designer has her very own blog. It’s amazing and if you’re a bit of a sucker for a kilt or Claire’s beautiful looks then you really must click through.
2. You can buy yourself a shrug reminiscent of Clare’s early days at Castle Leoch on Etsy. OR you could make your own Outlander inspired knits! Or make your own Clare Fraser inspired gowns with these Simplicity patterns! (With Outlander fabric?!)
3. Want to know which Outlander character you might have most in common with? Can do!

4. If you fancy knocking up a basket full of bannocks or some kind of outdoorsy stew, this is the book for you… Outlander Kitchen! Gasp!
5. Perhaps you’re biding time between episodes? It’s okay. You can Insta-stalk the official Outlander Instagram account. The photography is beautiful and it’s pretty ace to take a scroll back through memory lane…
6. If you are a super devoted fan you really need to learn how to speak Outlander like a proper Scot. This video is adorable and swoon worthy and you must not miss it.

7. Can you even believe these Claire and Jamie Pop! Vinyl collectibles?
8. I am sad that I can’t have this shortbread tin. Still. We can make our own PROPER Scottish shortbread, can’t we? Yes we can.
9. Hey. How about we go on an Outlander tour? To Lallybroch and Inverness and lochs and the prison and such? It’d be grand.

10. I don’t really know why we need an Outlander Colouring Book, but I suppose once Season 2 is finished we can while away the hiatus with some felt tip pens. PLUS… you get to colour Jamie in, which is probably quite a fun thing, amiright?
11. If you’re watching Season 2, you probably CAN NOT forget this dress. Why not have your very own? You could wear it down the shops and everyone would think you were super fancy.

12. Or maybe you long for a Claire-inspired cloak? Cloaks are perhaps a little menacing, but if you adopt the right attitude you could sweep your way around the neighbourhood and earn yourself a very mysterious reputation.
13. Do you want an Outlander wedding?! Maybe you do! Or maybe you are already married? Renew your vows, Outlander style!
14. Slap everything up with these cute stickers and indoctrinate the world with lads and lassies. It’s the least you can do.
15. If you just can not get enough and you’re between eps or seasons or re-watches, then maybe an Outlander podcast ep or two would tide you over?

16. And finally, at sweet 16, of course you might want to check in with Outlander series superstar author and all-round genius, Diana Gabaldon.

Sigh. How good was that? Man. I can’t wait for the next episode. (If you’re in Australia you can watch Season One on Netflix – and Season Two is currently on iTunes.)
