While so many abandoned blogging for the simplicity of social media, a heap of people are still committed to this self-defined, flexible and algorithm-free form of journalling. In fact, it looks to me like there’s a resurgence of blogging as people seek out alternatives to being at the mercy of the social media bully boys. And why wouldn’t they? Social media is super convenient and lots of fun, but it’s also governed by a gang of democracy-crushing, money-hoarding, self-obsessed narcissists. It makes sense to seek out an alternative.
Thankfully there are a LOT of alternatives, because so many people are blogging and sharing brilliant stories, recipes, insights and photography. I find the best way to enjoy this good stuff is to create an account in FEEDLY and then add all these blogs to your reading list. Then all you do is log in to Feedly whenever you fancy some inspiration and the blogs that have updated will show themselves. Next you grab a coffee and a cookie/biscuit and settle in for a cosy read!
(How to use Feedly <— I like this guide better than the official Feedly guide, because that one is very business-y. If you want to use Feedly but get stuck, email me and I’ll give you a hand. No I don’t work for Feedly, but I do advocate for bloggers and I want them to get read!)
Before I go any further I should also thank reader TinyWombat for asking me which ‘cosy blogs’ I read. She got me started on thinking about this.
(Some of) the blogs I love to read (which you might love too!)
NB: I read a lot of blogs. Not all my faves are on this list!

Love the list! I also love blogs, I have been so disappointed over the years when some of the ones I follow gradually drift off to never return. In saying that, my own is a tad neglected even though when I do get round to writing anything it brings me such joy. Silly I don’t do it more. You’re blog is a complete joy , thank you!
A blog that I didn’t see on your list is one I follow and really enjoy… https://cookbookamonth.wordpress.com/ it s group of friends who pick a cookbook a month and cook from it and blog about the recipes they’ve made for their family. At the end of the month they each rate the book. Beware though, it has influenced a few cookbook purchases over the years 🙂
I was JUST thinking how much i miss blogs and don’t have the time at the moment to go exploring for new ones. Thanks Pip.
Thank you for mentioning me! Someone told me they found my blog via your recommendation, and I’m looking forward to reading through the rest of the list.
Best wishes from Yorkshire!

I used to love how we all shared each others blog reads down the side of our blog pages, blogging has changed so much lately, I would like to get back to basics, but what with changing over to wordpress! I find it so complicated and what with life getting in the way! oh what a terrible few years of it my family have had and of course not left much time to blog let alone comment on peeps blogs…Never mind! I love how you keep on…keeping on! ill have a look through these blogs and see who id like to share on my little blog page…that will be a start anyway…thanks for sharing and a Happy New Year to you and yours xxx
Thanks Pip! I am coming back to blogs for the detail, so tired of scrolling though endless pictures with little substance behind them. A question for you – how do you read your blogs? Do you visit each individual page or use a blog reader? Thanks! Hayley
Love this list and feel so grateful to have been included with Let’s Talk Picture Books!
Thanks for the list Pip!
Of late I have found it difficult to find good fun blogs to read so will find some time to peruse your list.
Thank you Angelique
what a great list with many new (to me) blogs. I am using the Christmas break to overhaul my link list and to read all these delicious recommendations. Long live old school blogging
15 Years!!! Congrats! And thanks for including me. Love this post. Very generous.
Yes!!
Even though I tried so-called social media, I ditched them in short order and continue to blog. Been blogging since November 1999!
I share a few of those on your list ?
oh phooey, fat fingers must have hit the ? key instead of the period. oops.
PIP!!! Thank you. Long live blogs!! xoxoxo
How kind of you to share a list of your favourite blogs. I had a bit of a hiatus, but came back to blogging. It seems so much like chatting to friends. Long live blogs! congratulations on 15 years.
Long live blogs! (Mine has been going for only 3 years now, but still…)
Happy Blogday! Mine turns fifteen next year (I remember when it was a cute little toddler, but it’s so moody these days). I don’t blog very often, but I’m glad I’ve kept it going, which was most definitely a reaction against the tyranny of Facebook! So many of my favourite blogs have disappeared…I’m so glad you’re still flying the flag of independence. I’ll check out your list when I have time. Always looking for some good reads to add to Feedly. Thank you! ?
Ha! That question mark was unintended!
My favourite post of yours by far Pip; thank you! It’s like a little Christmas gift for me ? I have always loved blogs and already use Feedly… but over time my favourite morning ritual of reading interesting blogs from fascinating and creative people has been cut back to almost nothing. Years ago I had wondered what was going on and finally realised that everyone was moving to short, snappy social media posts… and I felt like I had to move across if I wanted to keep up. It just hasn’t been the same. I love reading about life from other people’s perspectives through blogs and now I have a whole new list to investigate and add to my feedly list. So many wonderful hours ahead of me! Thank you!
Pip, happy 15th blogging birthday! What an absolute feat of creative goodness this place is! You should be so pleased that you’ve made, & sustained, one of the best places on the internet. As I’ve said many times before, you are the reason I crochet, read blogs & write a blog. You are my inspiration! Thank you for all you put out & share.
And thank you for this list too! This week, as I was going through my Feedly feed, I was thinking that I need new blogs to follow because so many I used to read don’t write anymore. Because I’m not on Insta much I didn’t know where to ask for recommendations. I wondered too , do many people read blogs these days? Socials seems to be the place share. But I’m still a blog loving gal so this post is perfectly timed.
Thank you for including me in your list. I’m well chuffed to see The Back Fence appear xx
omg Pip, that’s me lost in blogland for next long while, I recognised some of them from years ago.
I’m going to have a look at feedly so may pop back here if I need any help. Thankyou
cheers Kate
